Boy, 11, Faces Murder Charge In Father's Death
Father Died Following Monday's Shooting
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. --
A boy has been charged in juvenile court with second-degree murder in connection with his father's shooting death this week, authorities said Thursday afternoon.
The man was shot Monday and later died at an area hospital, Independence police said. Neighbors said the boy, 11, shot his father.
Neighbors and the man's ex-wife, who is not the boy's mother, had asked for mercy, saying the father was mentally unstable and the boy lived a very difficult life. The boy's mother lives out of state.
The shooting occurred at 1016 S. Woodland Ave. in Independence.
It was not immediately known whether court officials would seek to have the boy tried as an adult.
